Self-Regulation Support for Children with Autism

Self-regulation support helps children with autism develop the skills they need to understand and manage emotions, attention, sensory experiences, and behavior across everyday situations.

Our individualized approach helps children recognize their emotions and body signals, understand triggers, communicate their needs, and learn strategies for coping with frustration, changes in routine, waiting, transitions, and other challenging situations.

Areas We Support

  • Emotional awareness and expression

  • Coping with frustration and strong emotions

  • Managing transitions and changes in routine

  • Attention and impulse control

  • Sensory and environmental coping strategies

  • Functional communication of needs and feelings

  • Flexibility and problem-solving

  • Waiting, turn-taking, and tolerating unexpected situations

  • Developing independence in daily routines

  • Building confidence and participation at home, school, and in the community

We work with each child’s individual strengths, developmental level, communication style, and needs. Families are also supported with practical strategies that can be used consistently across everyday environments.

Our goal is not to suppress a child’s emotions or make them appear “calm.” We help children understand what they are experiencing, communicate their needs, and develop safe, effective strategies for navigating everyday challenges with greater confidence and independence.
